README.TXT System Requirements Before installing Sun's J2ME Wireless Toolkit Required Software: - Microsoft Windows 98 Second Edition, Microsoft Windows NT or Microsoft Windows 2000. Required Hardware: - 30 Mbytes disk (140 Mbytes with Forte for Java) - 64 Mbytes system RAM (128 Mbytes for Forte for Java) - 166 MHz CPU (300 MHz for Forte for Java) In order to use the J2ME Wireless Toolkit follow these steps: 1. Install Java 2 SDK Standard Edition, version 1.3.0 or higher 2. If you want to develop/create an application download and install Forte for Java 2.0/3.0 from http://wwws.sun.com/software/Developer-products/ffj/index.html. This is optional 3. Installing the J2ME Wireless Toolkit 1.0.3 - If you have a previous version of the J2ME Wireless Toolkit installed, you should un-install the older version before installing this release. - Run the installer program and follow the installation instructions. - If you install the J2ME Wireless module (Forte for Java Plug-in), you should first make sure that Forte for Java is installed and working and then install the Forte for Java Plug-in. When installing the Forte for Java Plug-in, you should select "Integrated" as the setup type. - For more detailed installation directions, please refer to the J2ME Wireless Toolkit User's Guide and Release Notes. 4. Included in CD is the CLDC and MIDP specifications for reference: Connected Limited Device Configuration (CLDC) and K virtual machine CLDC Java Community Process effort that has standardized a portable, minimum-footprint Java building block for small, resource-constrained devices. CLDC runs on top of Sun's K Virtual Machine (KVM) that is provided as part of this release. (available through Sun Community Source Licensing) Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP) The Mobile Information Device Profile (MIDP) is a set of Java[tm] APIs which, together with the Connected, Limited Device Configuration (CLDC), provides a complete J2ME application runtime environment targeted at mobile information devices, such as cellular phones and two-way pagers.
